H.R. 3667 (Welch): To amend the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act to designate a segment of the Missisquoi and Trout Rivers in the State of Vermont for study for potential addition to the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System.

On Monday, the Subcommittee on Water and Power will hold an oversight field hearing on the "Federal Response to the California Drought Emergency."  On June 4, 2008, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger released a Proclamation and issued an Executive Order declaring a drought for the State of California.  The following week, Governor Schwarzenegger declared a State of Emergency in nine Central Valley counties.  While the Governor made a disaster declaration for the nine counties, either the President or the Secretary of Agriculture must make a Federal disaster declaration for Supplemental Crop Revenue Assistance payments to be made.

* On Monday, July 21, the Subcommittee on National Parks will receive testimony at a FIELD hearing regarding the All Taxa Biodiversity Inventory of all species within the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.  Witnesses include Dale Ditmanson, park superintendent, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, National Park Service, Department of the Interior; Glen Bogart, principal, Pi Beta Phi Elementary, Gatlinburg, TN;  Peter White, professor of biology & director of the North Carolina botanical garden, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, NC; Dr. Tim Watkins, program officer, National Geographic Society, Research, Conservation and Exploration.  (Alumni Hall, Highsmith Union, University of North Carolina Asheville, One University Heights, Asheville, NC at 9:30 a.m.)
